Vaporizer accessories explained: bubbler, screens, dosing capsules & Co. – what really makes a difference?
When you think of a Vaporizer, you first think of the device itself – but in everyday use, it’s often the accessories that determine how well your setup really works. A fresh screen restores airflow, a bubbler makes the vapor noticeably smoother, and the right grinder ensures even vaporization. In this guide, we go through the most important Vaporizer accessories across brands, explain what each part specifically does, and who it’s worth it for – so you can choose exactly what actually improves your daily experience.
A quick note upfront: You don’t have to buy everything. Most setups already benefit greatly from three things – a good grinder, fresh screens, and the right storage. Everything else is fine-tuning for your personal taste.
Where each accessory fits: the structure of a Vaporizer
Before we go into detail, it helps to look at the structure. Almost every dry herb Vaporizer has the same core zones – and each one is addressed by a specific accessory: the mouthpiece on top, the screen as a separator, the filling chamber for the herbs, and the temperature control. When you understand what happens where, it also becomes clear why a clogged screen slows the draw or why the grinding in the chamber determines the entire result.
1) The Herb Grinder: the underestimated most important accessory
If you buy only one accessory, make it a good grinder. It sounds unremarkable, but it’s the part whose effect you’ll taste immediately. The reason: A Vaporizer extracts aroma and active ingredients from the surface of the material. The more evenly and finely (but not too finely) you grind, the more surface area is exposed and the more evenly the hot air can flow through.
Too coarsely ground material releases its active ingredients unevenly – everything vaporizes on the outside, while much remains unused inside the pieces. Too finely ground powder, on the other hand, falls through the screens, clogs the airway, and can noticeably make drawing harder. The sweet spot is a uniform, medium-fine, and loose grind.
Especially with convection and hybrid devices, preparation matters a lot because hot air actively flows through the material here. A good Santa Cruz Shredder or a comparable grinder quickly pays off – more aroma, more even sessions, and fewer clogged screens. Tip: Don’t stuff the chamber. Fill loosely so air can circulate.
2) Screens & screens: the wear part that saves the airflow
Screens are small parts with a big impact. They keep plant residues out of the airway and mouthpiece, ensuring you can draw cleanly and freely. The key point: screens are wear parts. Over time, they clog with resins and fine material – and that’s exactly when a Vaporizer starts to draw harder, taste less fresh, and get dirty faster.
If your device suddenly feels "clogged," it is often not the device itself but a clogged screen. Many manufacturers offer suitable sets, such as the Storz & Bickel standard screens and coarse screens, the DynaVap CCD screen, or the Wolkenkraft mouthpiece screens for Äris and FX Mini.
Coarse or standard screen? Coarse screens allow more air to pass through and are pleasant if you like a very free draw – however, very fine grind particles can slip through. Standard screens filter finer and hold back more. Many users have both and switch depending on the grind.
Rule of thumb: A small pack of screens belongs in every setup. They are inexpensive, can be cleaned multiple times in isopropyl alcohol, and bring your device noticeably closer to like-new condition. Replacement screens can be found in the respective brand accessory collections, such as Storz & Bickel, Arizer, or Wolkenkraft.
3) Bubbler & Water Filter Adapters: for noticeably smoother vapor
If the vapor sometimes feels too warm or “harsh,” water cooling is the most effective upgrade. A Bubbler or water filter adapter channels the vapor through water before it reaches you. This cools it down and makes inhaling noticeably smoother – especially at higher temperatures or with larger draws, you’ll feel the difference immediately.
There are two options: a device-specific attachment like the Wolkenkraft Bubbler for Äris (Ultra), which fits directly onto the device, or a water pipe adapter like the Limelight Frolic Adapter (14/18 mm), which connects your Vaporizer to existing glass. This turns a compact device into a more flexible home setup.
Important for Glass & Adapters: Pay attention to compatibility – diameter (usually 14 mm or 18 mm), connection, and fit must match your device. And: change the water regularly, or the taste will turn. Fresh water = fresh vapor.
Even pure glass attachments without water change the character: depending on shape, airflow, and volume, they affect draw resistance and cooling. For many, this makes the Vaporizer more pleasant – an upgrade that looks good and adds functional value.
4) Dosing Capsules: Speed, Cleanliness, and Easy Filling
Dosing Capsules are small containers that you fill with herbs in advance and then insert completely into the chamber. The charm lies in everyday use: you can prepare several capsules at home and simply insert one after the other on the go – no loose material, no mess, no constant refilling. Another advantage: the chamber stays cleaner because the material remains in the capsule. This saves cleaning effort.
Many devices have matching capsules and magazines for storage, for example the Wolkenkraft Dosing Capsules for FX Mini & Äris with matching container, the DynaVap Hyper Dosing Capsules, or the Storz & Bickel Magazine for 8 Dosing Capsules.
Who are they worth it for? Especially for those who are often on the go, like to prepare in advance, or want to minimize cleaning effort. Those who only vaporize at home and in peace can do well without them – it’s comfort accessories, not a must-have.
5) Mouthpieces & Glass Stems: Taste and Draw Feel
The mouthpiece is the part you have direct contact with – and it influences two things: taste and draw feel. Many devices, such as the portable Arizer models, use a glass stem (aroma tube). The advantage of glass: it is flavor-neutral, and the vapor hardly comes into contact with plastic or adhesives. The result is a particularly clear, clean taste.
Interesting: With stems, even the length affects the experience. A short stem draws more directly and intensely, while a long one additionally cools the vapor on the way. Some devices deliberately come with two mouthpieces – one flat and discreet, one more comfortable. If your mouthpiece has scratches or residue buildup, it’s worth replacing: a fresh mouthpiece tastes more neutral and stays more hygienic.
6) Storage & Care: Protection for Device, Herbs, and Accessories
Storage is an underrated part of the setup. A case, a container, or an organizer not only protects the device from scratches but also keeps herbs and small parts clean and separate. Especially on the go, this is invaluable: instead of searching for brush, tool, spare screens, capsules, and mouthpiece loose in your bag, everything stays compact and ready to use.
Popular are device-specific cases like the Storz & Bickel Veazy Case, herb containers like the PAX Storage Container or the PAX Stash Tube for on the go, as well as high-quality wooden solutions like the DynaVap DynaStash.
Proper tools are also part of care. Cleaning sets like the DynaVap DynaKit Basic bundle brush, tool, and accessories for regular cleaning. Our tip: better to clean regularly in short sessions than rarely do a big “hard reset.” This keeps the flavor consistent and your device lasts longer.
Organization saves time: A fixed place for grinders, tools, capsules, and cleaning supplies makes every session more relaxed. Small parts don’t get lost, filling is cleaner – and you can see at a glance what needs to be restocked or cleaned.
Overview: Which accessory does what?
The most important upgrades and their effects at a glance:
| Accessories | What it brings | For whom? |
|---|---|---|
| Grinder | Even grinding → fuller, consistent vaporization | Every user – the basic upgrade |
| Screens | Free airflow, hygiene, protects the airway | Every user – wear part, replace regularly |
| Bubbler / adapter | Water cooling → noticeably smoother, cooler vapor | For those who like higher temperatures / big draws |
| Dosing capsules | Quick filling, less cleaning, no spills | Heavy users & travelers |

Summary: Where to start
You don’t have to buy everything at once. If you’re just starting out, this order gives the best value: first a good grinder (immediately noticeable), then a supply of fresh screens (keeps the draw clear), and suitable storage (protects and keeps things organized). If you prefer softer vapor, add a bubbler; if you’re often on the go, dosing capsules are helpful.
The most important thing is this: Choose accessories that really match your device and how you use it. Always check the compatibility of glass, adapters, and spare parts with your model – this way your setup will not only work well daily but also stay reliably functional for a long time.
